MICHAEL ANTECOL
Author of The Power of Young Consumers


Michael has ten years of experience in the institution and maintenance of comprehensive research programs on topics ranging from the media (including news and entertainment) use and effects, advertising effectiveness, marketing and social marketing. He has extensive experience in the use of (1) self-report survey data and (2) experimental data obtained via self-report instruments and autonomic responses. He is well versed in a variety of statistical techniques ranging from regression analysis to factor analysis to hierarchical and k-means cluster analysis to analyses of variance

Prior to founding his own consultancy, Michael was the lead researcher in two ventures examining the role of young people of society. First, at Forrester Research, he concentrated on research that examined all aspects of the lives of young consumers. This included research on all aspects of their entertainment, information, communication, technology, eCommerce, and social lives. At Stanford University, Michael was the principal investigator on a grant examining the effects of anti-smoking ads on young adults. Prior to these engagements, Michael was a research fellow at the Center for Advanced Social Research conducting consumer surveys and experiments on media and technology. He has also worked on consulting projects with Foote, Cone & Belding, New Directions for News, and the Media Campaign Workshop at the University of Toronto.

Michael's research findings have been used by executives from companies such as Sony, Verizon, Best Buy, Circuit City, AT&T, the IRS, Kimberly Clark, Coca-Cola, Beer.com and Labatt Beer. His research has also been quoted in a variety of media outlets, such as the Globe and Mail, the National Post, Maxim, St. Louis Post -Dispatch, San Diego Union-Tribune, PC Magazine, CNET Radio, Information Week, the Advisor's Edge, the Philadelphia Inquirer, mFactor, and Flora Magazine. And it has also been published in various academic journals in Canada, the United States and South Africa, as well as presented at conferences in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Israel. For his work, Michael has earned numerous awards including membership in the Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society.

Michael holds a Ph.D. from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri, a M.A. from the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Western Ontario, a LL.B (Law) from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a B.A. in Political Science from York University. Michael is also member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
